La Batterie St Lucia Visit Nov/Dec 07

Beitragvon referee » Do 27. Dez 2018, 13:40

Boy I bet I can top all of the previous reports, the view is absolutely incredible, the house is okay if you like the open air feel, there are no windows only wooden luvers, that may or may not close and lock. Our bedroom door did not lock. On our first night the house was broken into, and the intruders were entering our bedroom when I awoke. Now you are saying where was the security guard? apparently he was sleeping soundly in the cabana during the break in. Luckily for us the intruders (yes there were 2 of them) ran when my husband yelled at them, needless to say the next 6 nights were the longest of my life, I never imagined going on vacation with the fear of not making it home to our child. I could not wait to get out of there. I have read other reports that raived about Cynthia (the housekeeper and cook) she is indeed a very good cook, but she did not accomadate us at all, we asked for certain items when we arrived, and apparently she was unable to get them for us, she did not go out of her way at all to do anything for us, the pool area was dirty, and the sun was never on the pool because the trees are so over grown, the grounds are okay, I don't think they are as nice or as kept as they could be for as many gardeners as they staff, I did not enjoy the bugs, I was eaten alive every night even with the mosquito nets. (Bed bugs?) I e-mailed the owner of the villa to inquire if they were aware that the house had been broken into during our stay, and she did not respond, I don't know what to make of that. The road going up to the villa is absolutely horrible and we awoke every morning to huge trucks flying up and down the bumpy road with workers screaming at each other (so much for sleeping in). The shower in the bedroom we were using was very awkward and difficult to manuver the handle to get the right temp on the water, the mosquitos attacked us while we were using the tiolet. The hotel at the bottom of the hill was Okay, I think they recently remodeled it, the beach was not great, we did enjoy a massage there that was very nice. The owners of the villa make it sound like you get special priviledges there, but you don't, I tried cashing travelers cheques and they wouldn't do it, nor would they let us use the internet. It was difficult with the ammenities that we are used to Tv and internet, but we survived that. I would certainly not go back, the people did not make us feel welcome or comfortable. I hope this helps.

I'm bumping this to the top because we have this villa reserved for July. We are pretty close to cancelling. We would love to hear from anybody else with opinions on this villa and how safe they felt while staying there.

I'm not able to speak directly to your concern over staying at La Batterie, but take a quick look at my there and back chapter 2 post on my initial take of the Soufriere area. CIM

I can only add that we felt very secure in the villa and appreciated the presence of the night watchman.

I wonder if we were staying in the same place as our experiences are extremely different! My husband and I had a magical time at La Batterie and were overwhelmed by the friendly, hospitable staff and overall relaxed atmosphere La Batterie has to offer. Perhpas the uniqueness of La Batterie is associated with the openess of the villa and we were grateful for the wooden shutters which offered both privacy and welcomed ventilation in the Carribean climate.

It is unfortunate that you had intruders but the watchman was always around when we were occupying the villa. He even escorted us across the grounds when we arrived back from evenings out to the local hotel!
